Tate & Lyle Sugars: How “Trusted by the Best” Put Real Bakers at the Heart of the Brand

In a social media landscape filled with polished ads, highly curated influencer content, and over-produced campaigns, audiences are becoming far more selective about what they engage with. People don’t just want products pushed at them anymore. They want proof, personality, and content that feels genuine. They’re increasingly drawn to brands that communicate through genuine experiences, trusted voices, and storytelling that feels natural to the platform rather than heavily manufactured for it.

TAL TBTB

This shift has changed the way brands approach social media marketing. Instead of relying purely on promotional messaging or traditional advertising formats, many are now focusing on creator-led content, community-driven storytelling, and partnerships that feel authentic and believable. Audiences today are far more likely to trust recommendations and experiences from real people than polished brand messaging alone.

That’s exactly what the “Trusted by the Best” campaign for Tate & Lyle Sugars set out to do.

Instead of relying on traditional promotional communication, the campaign focused on a simpler, more effective approach: professional bakers using the brand in established working bakeries. Built around authentic partnerships, creator-led storytelling, and behind-the-scenes social content, the campaign became a strong example of how influencer and social-first marketing can build trust in a way polished advertising often can’t.

By bringing audiences inside genuine bakery environments and showcasing the people behind the craft, the campaign created content that felt immersive, relatable, and credible.

Moving Beyond Traditional Product Marketing

The baking category is crowded, competitive, and often driven by price. That makes it difficult for brands to stand out through product messaging alone. Many campaigns in the space rely heavily on promotions, product shots, or polished advertising that talks at audiences rather than connecting with them.

Instead of taking that route, this campaign leaned into credibility and craft. The idea was to show how professional bakers genuinely use Tate & Lyle Sugars in their everyday process, creating content that felt aspirational without losing authenticity. Rather than telling audiences the brand was trusted, the campaign focused on showing it through real environments, real expertise, and real stories.

The strategy was built around a key audience insight: both home bakers and professionals increasingly look to trusted creators and experts for inspiration, validation, and guidance. Social media audiences are far more likely to engage with content that feels honest and community-driven than messaging that feels overly branded.

Real Bakeries, Real Stories, Real Content

To bring the campaign to life, Tate & Lyle Sugars partnered with respected independent bakeries across the UK, including Comptoir Bakery, Greedy Cow Bakes, Milk, Who Cult, and Bristol Loaf. Each bakery was chosen for its strong identity, craftsmanship, and connection with its local audience.

Rather than asking creators to produce content remotely or stage polished studio shoots, filming took place inside working bakery environments. That decision gave the campaign a natural texture and honesty that audiences could immediately connect with. The visuals captured the pace, personality, and creativity of everyday bakery life in a way that felt immersive rather than manufactured.

The content itself was designed to feel social-first and engaging. It included bakery tours, recipe videos, quick-fire Q&As, behind-the-scenes moments, baking conversations, and short-form edits designed for Instagram audiences. Instead of feeling like isolated ads, the content felt like an ongoing window into the world of modern baking culture.

The Role of Creator-Led Content

To bridge the gap between professional baking and social entertainment, the campaign featured Matty Edgell as the face of the series.

What made the collaboration effective was the balance between expertise and relatability. Matty wasn’t positioned like a scripted brand ambassador delivering polished lines. Instead, the content leaned into his natural personality, curiosity, and genuine enthusiasm for baking. His interactions with bakery owners felt conversational, relaxed, and entertaining, which helped the brand feel integrated naturally into the content rather than imposed on it.

The campaign also avoided forcing rigid messaging into every piece of content. Bakers were encouraged to speak in their own voice about their process, their work, and why certain ingredients matter to them. That freedom allowed the content to feel far more credible and emotionally honest than heavily controlled branded communication.

At a time when audiences are becoming increasingly resistant to performative authenticity, this kind of creator collaboration matters. People can usually tell when influencer content has been over-scripted or created purely for promotional purposes. This campaign succeeded because the partnerships actually felt aligned and believable.

Why the Campaign Connected

One of the strongest aspects of the campaign was its consistency and pacing. Instead of releasing one-off influencer posts and moving on quickly, each bakery partnership was given room to grow over time. Every bakery became the focus of a full month of Instagram content, helping audiences build familiarity with the bakers, their personalities, and their work.

This slower, more layered approach helped create stronger audience connection and recognition. It also reinforced the “Trusted by the Best” positioning repeatedly without making the messaging feel repetitive or forced.

The visual storytelling played an equally important role. Flour-covered worktops, early morning prep, conversations between bakers, imperfect moments, and genuine reactions all contributed to a style of content that felt grounded in reality. Nothing looked overly polished for the sake of appearing polished.

That balance is increasingly important on social media today. Audiences still appreciate quality production, but they also want content that feels human, accessible, and emotionally believable.

The Impact

The "Trusted by the Best" campaign delivered exceptional results, proving the effectiveness of creator-led storytelling in driving both awareness and engagement. Through the production of 75 creative assets, the campaign generated 23,354,999 impressions, reached 5,729,595 people, and achieved 1,478,089 video thru plays, significantly expanding Tate & Lyle Sugars' visibility across Instagram while maintaining strong audience attention throughout the campaign.

The campaign also delivered impressive engagement, with the highest-performing video generating 24,244 engagements. These results demonstrate that audiences responded positively to content that felt authentic, relatable, and creator-driven rather than overtly promotional. By blending trusted creators with genuine storytelling, the campaign encouraged viewers not only to watch but also to interact, share, and engage with the content.

Beyond the numbers, the campaign successfully strengthened Tate & Lyle Sugars' positioning among younger baking enthusiasts by reinforcing the brand's values of quality, trust, and credibility. It highlighted how meaningful creator collaborations can build stronger emotional connections with consumers, turning branded content into entertainment that audiences actively chose to watch instead of traditional advertising.

What Brands Can Learn From It

The success of “Trusted by the Best” reflects a wider shift happening across social media and influencer marketing. Audiences no longer automatically trust branded messaging. They place far more value on creators, communities, and experiences that feel authentic and believable.

That doesn’t mean brands need to abandon strategy or high production standards. It means authenticity has to exist within the structure of the content itself. The partnerships need to make sense. The storytelling needs to feel natural. And the communication needs to create value beyond simply selling a product.

The most effective influencer-led campaigns today are the ones that feel native to the platform, use creators in a genuine way, prioritise storytelling over hard selling, and show real people in real environments.

“Trusted by the Best” worked because it understood that modern audiences connect more with proof than promotion.

And sometimes, the most convincing marketing isn’t telling people your product is trusted. It’s showing the people who already trust it.

At Together Agency, we believe the strongest social content comes from genuine stories, meaningful partnerships, and creativity that people actually want to engage with. Whether it’s influencer collaborations, brand storytelling, or social-first campaigns, we help brands create content that feels authentic, culturally relevant, and built for a deeper audience connection.
